Darkness approaches…and the sharp eyes of the creatures of the night will be watching your every move! Mary Childs of Focal Points, Inc. created a creepy DIY with a little bit of artsy black magic for an eye-popping feast.

How to Turn Styrofoam Balls into Creepy Eyeballs | DIY by Focal Points, Inc. | Modern Masters

Dixie cups are perfect as they can hold the eyeballs as you work on them and they also make a great drying stand. Paint all the balls you’d like to work on with the Ultra Spec Super White and use the Dixie cups to help you.

Once dry, decide which balls will be the cat’s eyes and which will be zombie eyes and follow the individual instructions below.

CAT EYES

Use a pencil to LIGHTLY draw a cat-shaped eye onto the surface, the looser the better. Google ‘cat eyes’ and search in the Images section. You will see many different types of cat eyes come up. Use your favorite images as a guide for your watchful eyes.

Use the Black Glazing Cream Color to paint the pupil and background of the eyeball.

Letting each layer dry fully, paint two coats of the Apple Green Metallic Paint in the iris, the colored part of the eye. Let dry and add any finishing details you see in your preferred images with a black marker.

ZOMBIE EYES

Brush a mixture of 1 part Tobacco Brown Glazing Cream Color with 3 parts Water onto the back part of the eyeball using a random motion. Let this dry thoroughly. Use a black marker if you’d like to outline some of the separate areas to help guide your colors. Paint the Platinum Metallic Paint in the iris, the colored part of the eye.

Once you are satisfied with the depth of your colors, use a black marker to add finishing details and fill in the pupil. Use your preferred zombie eye images as a guide to add colors and/or design to taste.

Metallic Crackle Pumpkin Halloween DIY | Applying the Crackle size | Modern Masters Tutorial by Mary Childs of Focal Points, Inc. | Halloween Pumpkin Ideas and Inspiration

Using a damp sea sponge that has wrung out, dab on two medium to heavy layers of Crackle for Latex Paint onto the black pumpkin, leaving some of the recessed areas of the pumpkin untouched. Start first with the top half and do the bottom next. Let dry 30 minutes between layers.

When the second layer is dry, apply a heavy layer of the Platinum/Silver Matte Metallic Paint to the bottom half of the surface where the Crackle for Latex Paint has been applied. Let completely dry, about 2 hours.

Repeat the previous step on the top half of the pumpkin, meeting and blending in at the middle point. Wait a few hours to see the final crackle and you are done!
