Clean all blocks with warm soapy water, rinse, and allow to dry completely. Once fully dry, roll or brush on two coats of SEAL-KRETE onto all surfaces of each block, including the interior. Allow to dry according to product instructions.

Fourth of July DIY: Metallic Faux Firework Sparklers

It’s time to fire up your Fourth of July with Stars & Stripes! Decorative Artist Mary Childs  shares a Modern Masters DIY Metallic Faux Sparklers with lots of Independence Day flair.

SUPPLIES
  • Modern Masters Metallic Paint in Oyster, Venetian Blue, Sashay Red, and Silver
  • 2″ PVC Plumbing tubes. My local hardware store cut my tubes into assorted sizes: 4″, 6″, 8″, and 10″.
  • 220 Grit Sandpaper
  • Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3® Primer Spray
  • 1″ and 2″ Brushes and a 1/2″ Stencil Brush
  • 1″ Blue Painters Tape
  • Star Stencil
  • Styrofoam
  • 1/2″ thick white rope
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Bang, Boom, and Pop sticky letters. Mine were created with a Cricut.
  • Clean Rags and Newspaper
INSTRUCTIONS

How to Create Metallic Faux Sparklers with Modern Masters Metallic Paint | Fourth of July DIY by Focal Points, Inc.

Cover your working area with the newspaper. Lightly sand all tubes, including the ends. Wipe all tubes with a clean, damp rag to remove any sanding dust and let dry. Spray all the tubes with the primer and let dry overnight.

Use the 2″ brush to paint each tube with 2 – 3 coats of Oyster Metallic Paint. Let dry 30 minutes between layers and allow to fully dry after the last opaque layer.

Modern Masters Sashay Red Metallic Paint helps create Metallic Faux Sparklers for the 4th of July | How-to by Focal Points, Inc. | Modern Masters Blog

As you’re doing several of these, please feel free to vary up the patterns to taste! Tape off all areas to be painted Venetian Blue Metallic Paint or the Sashay Red Metallic Paint and be sure to burnish all taped edges so that no paint leaks through. Apply 2 – 3 coats of your first Metallic Paint color with the 1″ brush. Let dry 30 minutes between coats and allow the final opaque layer to dry at least 2 hours. Repeat this same process with the second Metallic Paint color of choice.

Position the star stencil over the Venetian Blue Metallic Paint and tape in place. Stencil the design with the stencil brush and the Silver Metallic Paint. Repeat until desired pattern is achieved. Let dry 30 minutes.

Fill one end of each tube with a piece of styrofoam and hot glue into place. Apply a piece of the rope to the center of the styrofoam and glue into place. (This will be your ‘fuse’!) Paint the fuse base the either with the Venetian Blue Metallic Paint or Sashay Red Metallic Paint. Take your Bang, Pop, and Boom letters and arrange them on your desired pieces. Artfully arrange your decor pieces for your Fourth of July event and enjoy!

There’s nothing like a sizzling Fourth of July, complete with fireworks and festive decorations to celebrate. SUPPLIES
  • Modern Masters Metallic Paint in Sashay Red, Venetian Blue, and Pearl White
  • Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer for All Surfaces
  • 3 Inexpensive Glass Vases, like those from a dollar store
  • Lots of stick on stars. You can also make these on a Cricut.
  • Paint brushes
  • Paper towels
  • Newspaper or Plastic to protect your project area
  • Mini-light strands, preferably in white
  • Optional: Artificial flowers

INSTRUCTIONS

Before you begin, remove any labels on the vases, then wash in soapy water and dry. Add star stickers to each vase, in any pleasing pattern. Make sure the edges are tight to the glass to prevent paint from seeping underneath.

Paint 2 coats of the Zinsser primer on each vase. Let dry according to manufacturer’s instructions.

Verdigris and White mix gorgeously together! Me & Mrs. Jones hand patinated this furniture piece with Modern Masters Metal Effects | Cool Patina Furniture Projects Feature

Me & Mrs. Jones in Germantown and Memphis, TN, are big patina fans and created this pretty little dresser with a mix of Metal Effects and Old White Chalk Paint®. They used the Copper Reactive Metallic Paint and the Iron Reactive paint along with the Green Patina Aging Solution, Blue Patina Aging Solution, and Rust Activator. We recently featured the Minnesota-based Wanderlust Vintage Market and showcased their traveling retail shop. They also create lovely patinas on many decor and furniture pieces, such as this inspired tabletop, to sell in their retail shop. We believe they used the Copper Reactive Metallic Paint and the Green Patina Aging Solution along with the Metal Effects Rust.

Furniture hardware also gets in on the action! Artist SK Sartell of Oregon treated each ornamental knob with the Metal Effects Rust, which is the Iron Reactive Paint patinated with the Rust Activator. After the patination process was complete, she coated them with the Permacoat Xtreme, which is specifically made to protect the Metal Effects Rust Finish. She also used the Copper Reactive Metallic Paint and the Green Patina Aging Solution to add a verdigris finish in the corners and crevasses. See more on this unique armoire.

SUPPLIES
  • Metal Effects Blue Patina Kit
  • Paintable items, like the little birds
  • Paint Brushes
  • Paper Towels
  • Newspaper or plastic to protect your project area
  • Plastic cups to hold your item while painting, if required
  • Moss, feathers, and/or found objects from your yard for decorating
INSTRUCTIONS

How to create a blue verdigris patina on your garden decor accents | How to by My Patch of Blue Sky

Before painting, protect your area from spills and overspray and then arrange your materials. The Blue Patina Metal Effects Kit has all that you need for this project. Paint two coats of Metal Effects Primer and let dry. Allow half an hour between coats and two hours after the last coat to dry completely.

Paint the primed surface with the first coat of the Bronze Reactive Metallic Paint. Let dry for half an hour.

Apply a second full coat of the Bronze Reactive Metallic Paint and while it is still wet, spray on a light coating of the Blue Patina Aging Solution over the entire surface. As the activated surface dries, in about 30 – 40 minutes, a real blue patina finish will appear. No sealer or protection is required to use indoors or outdoors.
