One great reason to love the fall season are the beautiful colors of the trees and foliage. Mary Childs of Focal Points, Inc. takes Autumn’s best view and creates a super easy fall garland with leaves that shimmer and glitter.
- Various size leaves from local dollar or hobby store
- Hunter Green Metallic Paint
- Olympic Gold Matte Metallic
- Copper Matte Metallic
- Antique Copper Matte Metallic
- Glitter in fall colors
- Ribbon and Hole Punch
- 1″ Brush
- Twig or Stick – I found mine from a bush near the studio
Brush a layer of acrylic primer on your chosen leaves.
Select one of the Metallic Paint colors and paint several coats on 2 – 3 leaves. Let the Metallic Paint dry between each layer as you reach a fully opaque finish. Repeat this process with each of the metallic colors.
While the final metallic layer is still wet, sprinkle your chosen glitter over the surface of the leaf. Use glitter that matches the Metallic Paint color or that complements it nicely. Add some variety by glittering only a few leaves, not every one.
When the leaves are dry, use the punch hole to add a hole to the top of each leaf. Cut the ribbon into various lengths and string through the leaves, leaving a space between each leaf. Hang each strand onto the branch.
